10 years in commercial 3D printing

I've worked with 3D printing commercially for around 10 years: producing products, running printers, troubleshooting failures and preparing models for production.

I'll teach you strong fundamentals from the beginning, so you can avoid wasted hours. You should understand why a print works, why it fails and what to change when something goes wrong.

The FDM curriculum

What you'll learn

Six practical fundamentals, taught on real equipment. Resin group dates cover a separate process and are labelled in the booking options.

01

Understand your printer

How an FDM printer works, its main components and safe operation.

02

Find and prepare models

STL and 3MF files, scale, orientation and licensing basics.

03

Slice your model properly

Layer height, walls, infill, orientation and supports.

04

Build a reliable print profile

Temperature, speed, material settings and what affects quality.

05

Get a reliable first layer

Bed adhesion, calibration and spotting problems early.

06

Troubleshoot failed prints

Clogs, extrusion problems, stringing and layer shifts, tackled in a clear order.

What you take away

Understand why a print succeeds or fails

So you can make your next one with confidence.

  • Find and prepare a model you can print
  • Set up your slicer for your printer and material
  • Know which settings make a meaningful difference
  • Choose orientation and supports with confidence
  • Start a print and spot early warning signs
  • Diagnose a failure and make the next adjustment logically
